Challenge

Driving Innovation for a Circular Carbon Future

Kjeller Innovation, in partnership with research and industry collaborators, worked on developing a circular CO2 capture and valorization concept. This early-stage idea combined concentrated solar power, air-based CO2 capture, and electrochemical valorization but lacked proof-of-concept and required complementary expertise.

With a significant potential to support Europe’s 2050 decarbonization goals, the concept required an adequate source of funding and external guidance to build a comprehensive framework capable of delivering its intended impact.

Approach

Tailored Support in Presenting the Idea

Initially, EXEQ focused on identifying the most suitable funding scheme that aligned with the scientific potential of the concept, its targeted implementation area, maturity, and related funding requirements. From there, we assisted in pinpointing complementary areas of expertise to enhance the project’s research excellence. We also crafted tailored strategies to maximize the potential impact of the idea and designed a comprehensive project plan, milestones, and robust risk mitigation measures to ensure smooth and efficient project implementation.

Result & Impact

High-ranked application to EIC Pathfinder

EXEQ helped Kjeller Innovation form a strong consortium of eight partners from five European countries, covering all necessary expertise to realize their concept. EXEQ then developed and submitted a comprehensive funding application to the EIC Pathfinder program in 2022. The project’s excellence was validated by expert evaluators, who awarded a score of 14.5 out of 15, with top marks in Impact and Quality of Implementation criteria.
