EcoBean

Closing the coffee loop with low-carbon innovation

ENERGY & GREENTECH

EcoBean is transforming the recycling of spent coffee grounds, pioneering the production of low-carbon, coffee-derived chemicals with minimal environmental impact.

EXEQ partnered with EcoBean to design a long-term funding strategy, leading to the successful preparation of their first proposal, recommended for funding by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development. With ambitious plans to establish coffee biorefineries across the EU and explore cutting-edge upcycling methods, EcoBean continues to leverage EXEQ’s expertise in advancing sustainable innovation.

Challenge

Securing Funding for Large-Scale Coffee Ground Recycling

Developing a pioneering biorefinery to process coffee grounds on a large scale required significant investment. To address this challenge, EcoBean sought a tailored public funding strategy aligned with its project roadmap and strategic positioning to leverage available funding opportunities. Securing public funding was critical not only to cover the costs of the R&D phase but also to attract new investors, driving the company’s growth as it transitions into the commercialization stage.

Approach

Expert Guidance for Seamless Grant Applications

EXEQ offered expert guidance in developing a comprehensive funding strategy that integrated both national and European funding opportunities. We supported EcoBean in preparing two competitive funding applications submitted to national funding agencies. Currently, we are working on a new European funding application while actively monitoring additional financing opportunities to accelerate EcoBean’s development and growth.

Result & Impact

Accelerating the development of biorefinery

The funding application submitted to the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development achieved an outstanding evaluation, ranking among the top of proposals recommended for funding. Following this success, EcoBean has completed its research phase and introduced the first MVP of its sustainable chemical products. To support the scaling of production, we have submitted an additional funding application to a national program tailored to the current stage of technology development.
